Show Me the Love: Devotion Board Creation Workshop

The Counter-Covid Experience

Change is difficult. Collectively we are all experiencing the same contemporary global upheaval but we are each doing so in our own unique way. Creating a devotion board may help to kickstart your imagination, help you focus your abstract thoughts and give your emotions a much-needed physical resting spot. Whether it is honouring a lost loved one, refocusing on a postponed goal, or celebrating family and friendships, translating the conceptual into a concrete artwork can be a reparative and restorative act.

The Devotion Board Workshop is a two-step, two-week process. In Week One we will begin with a presentation on devotionary artworks, traditions, and compositions. We will think about the kind of imagery and items we should collect and compile to create our own devotionally collage. In Week Two, we will use our collective spirit to support the art-making process with a working party. Prepare to get sticky and as we commit our collected items to their canvas. At the class conclusion, we will come together to share our devotion art at its near completion and celebrate the process and outcome.

The medium will be collage; 9×12 canvas-board, decoupage-liquid and brush are included.

No art experience is necessary.

TWO sessions – 60, and 90 minutes in duration

$100 per person

Perception Power: Vision Board Creation Workshop

Live in the presence of your dreams

Well in the case of Vision Board creation, the definition will become quite literal! It is time to take the intangible and hold ourselves accountable. Take that long list of “If-onlys” and “somedays” and commit those ideas to an artwork that will proudly hang in our immediate surroundings, ever reminding us to take charge and attain our life’s purpose.

The Vision Board Workshop is a two week process. We will start by defining and examining goal-determining strategies, best practices for identifying attainable objectives, and metaphors in art history that can be applied to our Vision Board composition. Week Two will be a working party where materials are chosen, experimented with and committed to. At the seminar’s conclusion, we will come together to share our artworks and warmly discuss both the process and the experience.

The medium will be a combination of collage, text-art, and mixed media.

No art experience necessary! 9×12 canvas included!

TWO sessions – 60 and 90 minutes in duration

Cost is $100 per person

Perfect Your Pattern: Mandala-Making Workshop

We hopped on the colouring-book craze last decade when it was prescribed to reduce stress and quieten the chaos in our brains. Filling in the little shapes is so satisfying and completing an entire, intricately designed page is understandably rewarding. Even better: colouring alongside a good friend and catching up.

What if we took this wondrous activity and explored the idea of creating our own patterns, resulting in something truly personal and triumph-worthy?

In our Mandala Making Workshop we will investigate tools used to make these traditional geometric symbols, borrow a bit of Eastern philosophy and celebrate our inner universe. Using everything from classic kid toys to kitchen container lids, you’ll learn that everything within your reach has the potential to assist you in making some magic. We will conclude the workshop by making our completed mandalas into gift-able greeting cards, because sharing our gift is part of the process.

Materials will be provided

Bliss Emoji: Art for Positive Energy Focus

Truth: we make the healthiest decisions when we are contented.

What if we could create an empowerment icon whose energies we could draw upon when we need to make choices for our futures? Are such symbols universal? Or should we make and invigorate something more personal? What if the answer was both?

In this painting workshop we will work alongside each other and reimagine the beloved Enjoyary logo, the sunshine happy-face of unlimitless potential, making it our own and laughing along the way. As we paint, we will discuss our barriers to happiness, and reasons for gratitude; thereby refocusing positive energies into our brush-strokes. At the workshops completion you will be the proud owner of your own self-made emblem of empowerment.

Canvas and acrylic paint included

Playing with Portrayal: Portrait-Making Workshop

Just the mere thought of creating a portrait of a friend or loved one is enough to make many people nauseous. We don’t want to offend, scar, or misrepresent our subject, especially if our subject is someone we care deeply for. But what happens when we let our guard down, agree to remove the judgement, respect the interpretation, and have some fun creating artworks of each other? What better way to honour our closest relationships, amplify acceptance, celebrate connection-gratitude, and magnify that reward?

Shared experience is the key during our 90 minute portrait-making workshop. And prepare to laugh until you cry as you and your inner-circle learn to experiment with representational art-making. We will use some wacky-but-proven skill-building techniques and you are guaranteed to go home with several versions of yourself and others.

No art experience is necessary. Mediums used are drawing-based and easy-peasy mono-print.

One 90 minute session

$35 per person

Art Eradication: Inner-Monster Making Workshop

Make some art with the advance intention to destroy it. Give creative catharsis a try

Sometimes our apprehensions hold us back from living the life we truly want to lead. By identifying, declaring, and visually consolidating our anxieties, we can to move forward and hopefully feel a bit more comfortable.

In our Monster-Making workshop we will discuss some of our greatest worries and look at some examples of fears as they have been depicted symbolically in historical art. Moving to our own blank paper, we will draw our own anxieties in a comfortable metaphor-monster format, honour them, and finally destroy the physical effigy (shread, tear-up, burn) to help cleanse us.

Combination of dry and wet mediums on paper, followed by a ceremonial and fiery art obliteration

Au Plein Air: Taking our Art to the Park

That Monet-guy was really onto something big here.

We know that hiking in nature is good for our health and that making art is good for our soul. Combine the two and are we not unstoppable? Have you always wanted to make art outdoors but are a bit intimidated as to how one begins, how subject choices are made, and what materials are best for portability and less cumbersome movement in the wild?

In our Au Plein Air (fancy French art term for Outdoors) Workshop we will traverse a naturalistic city park in search of inspiration, all while being empowered by encouraging words and technical support. We will leave the experience with two art works (one macro and one micro), familiarity with some common (and not so common) art making materials, a good grounding in the process, and incentive to continue forward.

A combination of wet and dry materials will be provided. Paper too.

No art experience is necessary. NONE!
