I discovered this project featured on a pubic post suggesting it as a project for primary school art class. The examples given were produced by eight year olds (!!!) and were beyond impressive. “Wow! Why didn’t I get to do stuff like that in Grade Four!” – though I.
Well… lotsa reasons, the number-one being lack of quick-n-cheap technology.
BUT I can satisfy that yearning by giving it a try as an adult. I did this project in under an hour (with the majority of the time devoted to paint drying). Its roots are in potato print (sponges today) and old-fashioned animation cell painting (accomplished here using sheet protectors and craft paint). From a curricular stand-point, the lesson was intended to be one of ethnicity celebration and the Grade Four test subjects were encouraged to create a skin color as close to their own as possible by mixing colours, rather than rely on factory-peach. Question today: should I (or could I) make this into a workshop?
Would adults and or families be interested?
